I wanted to base my work experience placement off my fascination with A-level Criminology, and after doing work experience with Norfolk Constabulary, I felt I wanted to know more about private investigation as opposed to policing. Then I found the fabulous Taylor Investigations!
From the beginning, being at Taylor Investigations was both entertaining and extremely informative. On my first day, I emailed many litigation solicitors and got to go to an address as a part of process serving, which I previously didn’t know a lot about. Additionally, I got to see an example of tracing someone using their credit which was fascinating but also slightly creepy! Later in the week, I got to give tracing a go myself by finding out as much information as possible after being given a portion of context. Things I found included: family, social media accounts, hometown and even favourite football team!
Another task I enjoyed was coming up with marketing ideas for social media. This was because I could use what I find engaging online but then think further to how my ideas would benefit a business. However, one of my favourite things I did over this week was independently calling businesses to try and help find someone because I could use my background in Drama to communicate with others. It has been very interesting to understand the wide selection of businesses and people you may work with doing this job, which is an aspect I wasn’t as aware of before this week.
Doing a variety of different tasks has made each day exciting and showed me how many skills are required to be a private investigator! I’ve been taught many different things, not only relating to private investigation, but also an insight into starting and maintaining a business.
The inspiring and knowledgeable work environment I’ve been fortunate to be a part of for a week has made asking questions very easy and encouraged me to research further into private investigation.
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Charlotte and Jamie for having me in the office and being fun fountains of knowledge teaching me the ropes of Taylor Investigations. I am very grateful for everything and have thoroughly enjoyed every day!
Thank you!
KIzzy
